Which island in Hawaii is better to stay?

We try to plan a trip to Hawaii for a week. We my wife and children go and my parents-for a total of 10 people. What island is the best? We try to go to Pearl Harbor forever. how much would it cost to get from one island to another? But should want to stay on this island, we want white sand beaches, friendly people, beautiful nature, etc. What is the best place to stay preferably near or on the beach. A house or a condo?
