East Honolulu, Hawaii a great place to go?

For the past year, I really thought a good place to pass is a good place to raise a family, a good school system (public / private), an outstanding workforce with a BA, and only a wonderful place for a family to be. I thought about Honolulu optional, and other places, but they days I have been seeing on the news (and on-line articles) that Honolulu is one of the best places to live and a school system quality. If you can, tell me what I need to know about Honolulu (personal experience or just things that you know) before making a final decision?

First let me say that Hawaii is very expensive. My friend had an apartment on the third floor (one bedroom) and paid 900 $ Dollars a month ago at least 7 years! The pay is terrible and everything is expensive. They have a very bad drug problem there. If you ever go to through some small towns on the island, you'll see people have big signs on the lawns in front of you to keep the area free of drugs! Then he the problem is nothing to do! You can only go so far on the island, what if you want to go somewhere different? It'll cost you a lot! It gets boring really fast! Of course, your progress to see good things on the news they want people to move there! Then there is the problem homeless. Many people want to move there and many people can not afford to live there or to move home. So they live on beaches. It's so bad that you can not walk, even on the beach at night behind the police station because it's so dangerous! At night there are so many prostitutes on the streets, you're not safe to walk, even with people. You will be approached, even if your with your wife or husband!
