Hawaii Real Estate Prices

Housing prices in your area?
I’m in Real Estate In Hawaii and am planning on buying some investment property/(ies) within the next few years on the mainland. I was wondering if I could get information from real people (and not statistics) about what typical housing prices are in your area and if they’re rising or falling lately? Are a lot of people moving into your communities, or leaving? Are malls coming, etc. Just anything that could affect property value on a whole.
The reason I want to hear this from actual people is because it’s said that say that the average home in Honolulu is 650,000 dollars, but in the area I live in, you’ll have a really hard time finding a home for much less than a million. So in order to get a clear picture of an area, and find out if it’d be worth me making a visit to check out homes there (again, not to live in. I’m happy in Hawaii. I want investment property.), I’d like to hear from people who know first hand. Thank you!
Housing prices in my area (Klamath Falls, OR) have been falling, but I believe we are pretty close to the bottom in my market. Average home price is $188,000, houses are averaging 122 DOM, 25% selling and quite a long absorbtion rate, probably 8 months.
With the stats out of the way….
Big box stores are coming in my area. We already have Home Depot and a Super-WalMart. Announcements were made this week that Lowe’s and Michaels are coming this year. 2 chain restaurants opened recently and Reb Robin, who IMHO has the best burgers ever, is coming this year.
The job market here stinks, but some of the big employers here are driven by the housing market, and with low housing starts, the demand for lumber products is down.
Land and commercial are doing well.
