Hosting a Hawaiian Luau – Tips, Tricks and other major councils
Tiki torches, cloths, necklaces of flowers and lots of music, food and entertainment? It's a Luau, a traditional Hawaiian feast that has become synonymous with good times.
The Hawaiian word "Luau" may be technically defined as a party, but so much more. A real traditional Hawaiian Luau took months to plan and prepare, because it is a community gathering and a contest of skill and intelligence. So allow plenty of time and establish a budget as a guideline for the party.
Start by planning to hold a Luau outside, as it would in the authentic Hawaiian culture. If the palms do not grow in the region, established certain cuts and think the addition of a few brilliant tropical flowers in pots. Decorate the space party with tiki torches, shells, fishing nets, cloth, colorful banners – nothing to suggest the atmosphere, bright and warm in the archipelago. Make sure they are furniture decorations where the party should move inside for some reason.
Let customers know well in advance of the Hawaiian Luau theme. Emphasize that the dress is casual Tropic – Hawaiian shirts and baggie shorts, Muu-Muus, sarongs and sandals, straw hats and bikini tops and grass skirts. Greet each guest with a flower lei (real if the budget allows, silk if the cost is a problem). Do not forget a Aloha "hot!"
For drinks, there is no problem – tropical cocktails like Mai Tais, daiquiris and piña colada are a perfect choice, especially if it is made of coconut shells. Be sure to serve non-alcoholic cocktails, iced tea or fruit punch for the crowd of miners and those who do not drink alcohol. Top of all drinks with cocktail umbrellas colorful little.
Luau Center on menus generous portions of roast meats and side dishes, especially the fruit pieces. Roasting a pig roasted on a spit backyard will impress guests but only experience (or brave) cooks should try this delicacy. Check with a local butcher about getting a pig roast.
Other options menu of chicken, pork, beef or fish, often marinated with teriyaki sauce and grilled on the barbecue. Teriyaki sauce savory-sweet flavor also makes a wonderful dipping sauce. Ultimately, there is always a pineapple and clove-studded ham, but think try at least one unusual recipe.
A real pleasure Luau includes music, dancing and games of skill and strength. Again, if the budget allows it May be a social club for local residents of the Pacific Islands, with a dance group that would appreciate receiving a gift. They may even teach the guests hula. Platform game with a Hawaiian theme, such as "Pin the Tail on the Piggy" "Bobbing for fish" swimming in a wading pool, or "Hot Coconut" instead of "hot potato". Young children can string their own leis with plastic flowers and fishing line, while that older children and adults can participate in contests javelin (make sure the ends are blunt). For the price, small Small toys will love tropical theme, while adults will probably appreciate the bags of ground coffee Kona (especially if they were too Mai Tais).
Especially, a Hawaiian luau to enjoy good food and good company. So put the music of the islands, Don a kilt and get in the spirit of the Pacific South.
