What are some tips regarding how to NOT look like a tourist when going to Hawaii?
I’m traveling to Hawaii soon, and I was wondering if anyone knew what types of things upset Hawaiians. I already know they hate people who wear flower-sequined shirts and such. Thanks.
I don’t think it much matters. Locals have a 6th sense for these things. Before they even open their mouths, we can pick with over 90% accuracy who is the local Japanese & who is the tourist, which haole is from Memphis & which is from Makakilo. But to answer your question, probably the biggest fashion no-no would be wearing a matching aloha shirt & muumuu. Try not to refer to the mainland as “the states”. We don’t get upset all that easily, unless people are downright rude & pushy. And honest, we don’t hate “people who wear flower-sequined shirts and such”.
