How do people in Hawaii cope with such a high cost of living? Do you get payed more for jobs?
Do you all have a higher minimum wage?
What are some advantages to living there?
People I know that have lived in Hawaii fall in one of two categories: Either they live a very bohemian lifestyle and don’t worry about money because they are happy to live in such a beautiful place (they sleep three to a room, dress shabbily, and eat a meager diet), or they work their butts off with 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet.
Well, then there are the locals, too. They generally don’t have the same standard of living as people in the mainland US do, and they rely a lot on family ties to keep themselves afloat. They continue to live there because it is their home and they don’t know any other lifestyle.
