hey i live in Hawaii and as you probably know there are tons of waterfalls. I leave next year if I want to take as many photos as possible! The "white water" effect is usually achieved using a shutter speed slow, ie about 1/30th of a second or slower. A single camera lens digital SLR would be ideal because they usually give you the can easily set the shutter speed you want. There are a few of those brands, but they usually begin to scale price of $ 500 for new units, and up from there. If $ 500 + is out of range of your budget, here's what to do with a point less costly and compact digital camera. Buy yourself a tripod and try to wait until dawn or sunset or a very cloudy dark day for shooting. Put your camera on the tripod to the place you want to shoot, and disable the electronic flash from the camera menu. The level of low light and no flash will force your camera to use a slow shutter speed to blur the motion of water.
