I want to go away to go to college and everywhere I've found is $ 1,500 per month for a studio. Is there an inexpensive place to live in Hawaii?

Try craigslist. It's free. Click on Honolulu. If you plan on attending UH you might look for places along University Avenue. P 1500 $ Per month is far too expensive on a student budget. My niece had a studio to 800 square feet with kitchenette 1 / 2 mile from the university for $ 800.00 p / Mo. over the years she has attended. Good luck and I wish you good luck on your way. Aloha
